"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, Committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it’s the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead You are a person who has concern for how human actions on the environment affect the quality and integrity of that environment. You understand the need to do something to ensure sustainable use and management of natural resources. Your mission statement includes a description of the environmental ethos that guides all that you do. It also includes recognition of the power of your own individual action, and the power of group action. SIMBY is your catchphrase. SIMBY stands for Start In My Backyard, and it exemplifies your approach to life. If you want something changed, you recognise that you must be part of that change. The dynamics and scale of environmental problems do not hinder your individual action because you understand that complex problems are made up of units that can be managed. The key to sustainable action is awareness and education, and you take the time and effort to be informed so that your life choices, on a day-to-day basis, are informed choices – informed decisions. Not only do you make sure you are informed about how your actions impact the environment you also support others to gain that information, so that they too can make informed decisions. |
